Now that you know how to get organized and have all the tools in place, this week at the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp 2012 Session 2, James Martell was covering how to find the right niche for you. This is a beginning step for starting as an affiliate. Because you plan to be doing this for a long time it is important to pick a niche that works for you.

James started the third session of the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp 2012 talking about how many web sites that you need to have to be successful as an Internet marketer. You will be very surprised to find out what he recommends.

He then went on to discuss how you can pick a topic that will work for you. James Martell has a blueprint for this process and he is more than willing to share this with you.

If you are going to devote the time and effort that it takes to make a success then your topic must have some relevance to you. At the same time there must be interest from others about the topic. James will reveal to you some free tools that you can use to find the answers to these factors.
Affiliate Marketers BootCamp 2012 Session 2
He then spent a long part of the session discussing the ins and outs of the affiliate side of the equation. If you are going to be an affiliate marketer you need to be paid for your efforts. He outlines what exactly this process is, how to evaluate the affiliate programs in your niche, and what you should expect from the merchant. He answered the question – what if the merchant doesn’t have an affiliate program, should I get him to start one? What types of creatives will you need to make your site work with the merchant’s products? How you can judge if the merchant will be supportive of your efforts?

He raps the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp 2012 session 3 up by asking the students to give some serious though to how much they know about the niche that they are about to select. Your web site is going to need ongoing content to be successful. No doubt you can outsource the writing but to be able to appraise it you must be very familiar with the subject.

The homework for this session of the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp 2012 session 3 is to work on finding this niche. You will be very surprised to find out how James Martell has you start the process.

For those of you who follow this journal of a senior learning Internet marketing you will know that I started with James Martell’s Affiliate Marketers Bootcamp 2008.

Knowing absolutely nothing about Internet marketing his was the first course that I took. I think that I have been quite frank in stating that with hind sight I am not sure that was the best starting point for me. However it has made me a complete fan of both James and Arlene Martell. They give freely and wholly of themselves to help Internet marketers.

It is being offered at a mere $47.00U.S. per month, making it affordable for everyone. This amount offers so much more and we will discuss what the other benefits are later.

Backlinking Tips

As a senior learning Internet marketing one of the hardest task for me has been the finding of effective ways to build Backlinks. This past week I was once again reminded of the need for this when I was reading Five Backlinking Strategies You Shouldn’t Waste Your Time With In 2012 by Robert Jones (nickname kezanari). I direct your attentin to this post as there are many great ideas in this article and in the comments that have been made.

As followers of this blog you will know that I am an advocate of James Martell of Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp fame. He was recently at Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas and returned with some words of wisdom from Matt Cutts. Matt was quoted as saying things like “I’m not a big fan of article marketing”, “article directories are low-value sites with duplicate, poorly written content that does not add value to the Net”, “I’d lean away from it”. In the above article, kezanari feels that doing mass submission of articles is a pure waste of time. Although there are a number of companies offering services to submit your articles to thousands of sites it appears that this is not the way to go.

The whole idea is to add useful content that visitors will want to read. By adding unique, quality information to the web Google will index your article and the Backlinks in these articles have a better chance of being clicked upon. Plus this will add to the value of your web page that you are hoping to get ranked.

I also took kezanari’s advice and read 18 Link Building Techniques by Ben Jackson on Mitz’s Website. I urge you to read this very insightful article. I for one was surprised to see that ezinearticles.com was still showing a page rank of 6. After the Panda slap I had completely given up on using this site. There are many useful resources in this article. Like others Ben recommends that you pick one method and master it. He also emphasizes the need for quality content. He stresses the need to write for visitors to your article rather than producing articles that are only geared for search engines.

With James, kezanari, and Ben all accentuating the idea of quality, unique content, guest posting is going to be one of the best courses of action. Members of James Martell’s Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp course have access to a course on guest posting.

For me, I have started with this idea of doing guest posts. I have found that I have enjoyed an increase in traffic for those pages to which I have linked back with anchor text. For those of us who are striving to be work at home seniors it is very necessary for us to learn as much as we can about the process of Backlinking.

How to Find Your Perfect Keyword

As seniors learning Internet marketing there are many things that we have to learn. At time this process is overwhelming and it is no wonder that we often lose track of how important the perfect key word can be to optimizing our websites. I don’t think that revisiting keywords and stressing that it is vital that we spend time finding the right ones can be taken lightly. Through out this web site we have talked about keywords and keyword research. It may seem like we are harping upon it however in an effort to post content to our sites so often this step is forgotten. So once again we bring this important topic to your attention.

The Why and How of Keywords

When creating a website, deciding which keywords to use is as equally important as deciding the layout and content. It’s the keywords you incorporate into your site that attract attention and gain visitors. Selecting and applying highly targeted keywords is crucial in creating a successful website. The more specific and popular your words are to your website, the more traffic you will generate.

To utilize keywords, we must first define what they are and their usage. “Keywords” refers to words users are searching for when visiting search engines such as Google and Yahoo. For instance, if you’re a woman golfer and want information on golf equipment you might enter “women’s golf equipment” into the search engine. The keywords here are “women”, “golf” and “equipment”.

The benefits of optimizing your website for specifically-chosen and applicable keywords, is that it will appear in the correct search results page. When users search for information that your site contains, they will be easily directed to it. Using the right keywords also informs Google what your website is about. Google’s search function uses a complex algorithm to determine which websites are relevant and how relevant they are to certain searches. If you list a popular keyword, your site will be listed. Whereas the quality of your website is important, it won’t generate visitors if it doesn’t contain valuable keywords.

Deciding what your keywords are going to be isn’t just listing words and phrases you believe users will be searching for. Research is critical to determine the right keywords for your site. Here are a few notes to keep in mind when choosing your keywords:

  1. Relevance to your website content.
  2. Keyword has a high count of searches in the search engines.
  3. Keyword is profitable; the user is searching this keyword because they’re interested in purchasing an item.

One easy and free tool to use when researching your keyword is Google’s Keyword Tool. There’s a variety of reliable keyword software programs; however, Google is simple and free to use, which is recommended when first starting out. Google’s Keyword Tool will show you what types of words get hits and the amount of traffic they attract. In addition, it will suggest similar words to use. Pay close attention to the “global monthly searches”, which tells you how many users around the world are searching for this keyword each month. The globally monthly search allows you to limit and center your search to specific geographical areas if you’re more interested in a local zip code.

Whereas you want a keyword that’s popular and gets a lot of hits, you don’t want a keyword that is too popular. For example, if you insert “cat” into Google’s keyword tool, you will see that this word gets millions of hits per month. That may be good news for the user searching “cat”; however, if your website is about cats, then it’s highly unlikely it’ll stand out amongst the millions of other search results. To decide whether a keyword is effective or not, you’ll want the word to get around 10,000 searches per month. This way, users are more likely to be directed to your site.

Another helpful tool when choosing a keyword is to test your word out on a search engine and see how many ads are displayed on the results page. These ads are paid to appear when certain keywords are searched for. If companies are relying on these keywords then you can be assured they’re valuable words to use. One helpful service in doing ad research is Yahoo Overture, which offers advertising on Yahoo and allows users to enter a keyword and see how much they charge advertisers for using that word.

Popularity, investment and profitability are what make keywords powerful. Google Keyword Tool searches the popular words, Yahoo Overture shows you the highly invested words and ClickBank displays words that are the money-makers. ClickBank is an online affiliate network that displays the amount of affiliates promoting a product with their rating tool “gravity”. The more affiliates a word has, the more likely that word will generate profit.

How to Utilize Your Keyword

Once you’ve found your chosen keywords, it’s time to incorporate them throughout your website. Where you place your keywords is crucial in determining whether users click on your website or not. Here are some guidelines to utilizing your keywords:

  1. Always place one of your keywords in the title of each page or article, preferably as close to the front as possible (Google reads from left to right).
  2. Each content page should contain your keyword in the first and last paragraph.
  3. On your webpage, position the keyword in the upper left-hand corner of the page (to generate more hits on Google since it reads from left to right).
  4. Incorporate your keyword into your domain name.

“Keyword density” is a term you’ll become familiar with as you’re placing your keywords into your content. Keyword density is expressed as a percentage, meaning that a keyword density of 2% means that 2% of the text is your keyword. In words, for every 100 words on your website, your keyword can be found twice. When working on your keyword density, aim to have it less than 2% as 2% is quite high of a density. On every page of your website, your keyword should appear in the title, first paragraph and last paragraph as well incorporating it throughout the remaining context. The reason you want a “keyword density” lower than 2% is that websites with containing the same word too many times are considered spam by Google and thus ignored in search results. You not only want a website with quality content but also a website that people see.

Anchor Text is Your Friend

“Anchor text”, is a link on your website that directs them to a different location. Some anchor texts say “click here” or “join now” but to maximize your website’s visibility, always use your keyword in the anchor text. To give you an example, instead of your anchor text saying “click here” you would put “click here to see a list of women’s golf equipment”. Anchor text is valuable in that Google uses anchor texts when determining which websites are relevant to each keyword.

Putting it Together

You’ve found your keywords, you’ve inserted them sporadically but significantly throughout your website and have your domain and anchor texts labeled with your keyword(s). As emphasized throughout this article, keywords are core to establishing your website as popular and successful; however, if your content lacks quality and your layout is messy and un-organized your keyword will not be strong enough to save you. In the big picture, keywords are just a piece of the puzzle. A big, crucial piece nonetheless but they don’t make up the whole puzzle. Keywords, anchor text, quality and aseptically appeasing layouts are what will make your website successful.

Are Today’s High Tech Devices Creating A Nation Of Hermits?

One of the things that I have had trouble with as a senior learning Internet marketing is this business if establishing backlinks. Why are they necessary and how do you get them? Are all backlinks necessary? As we explore these questions I am going to post on this site a number of articles that we wrote as the master article of which we could then write new versions. I stress the business of the writing of new articles not spinning them. We then approached a number of sites that might be interested in publishing these ideas. Because I feel that the ideas are very worthy on exploring I am going to post them on this site.

The first one is:

Are Today’s High Tech Devices Creating A Nation Of Hermits?

First thing when I woke up today, I checked my email. Then, I got on Facebook to see what everybody’s doing. After chatting with a few friends and ‘liking’ a few links they shared with me, I got on my favorite forums. I hung out a while and then decided I needed a break from all this social activity. I relaxed with a few YouTube videos and a little computer solitaire. Finally I did a bit of surfing to see what the best women’s golf clubs were available and then I did a search for a crib for my Granddaughter.

And when I went outside later to buy milk, the sun burned my eyes! And the people around me seemed to be staring at me! It was terrible; I got back inside as quickly as I could and logged on to Twitter.

Does this sound like your typical morning? Okay, maybe it’s a bit of an exaggeration, but many people today believe that our computers (and especially the internet) are turning us into a nation of hermits. We’re losing our social skills and our ability to interact with the outside world. Life is becoming virtual!

Are You An Internet Junkie?

Is it true? Are we becoming shut-ins who are locked to our computer screens? You can find studies that agree and disagree with this theory, but let’s just consider why many people are worried.

First of all, we’ll cite one study – it was by Carnegie Mellon University in 1998. It found that heavy internet users have fewer friends, more stress, and higher levels of depression. Remember – this refers to ‘heavy’ users, or as some might say, internet addicts. This is also way back in the Stone Age of the ‘90s when we didn’t have so many social networking sites to reach the outside world with.

In fact, there were a number of studies in the 90’s that indicated we were facing a potential epidemic of internet addiction. They termed it Internet Addiction Disorder and made a list of symptoms that probably describe most of us today in 2011: using online services every day, going out less, losing track of time, others complaining about your internet use while you deny you’ve got a problem, and here’s a really terrible one – checking your inbox multiple times a day!

What was a mental disorder yesterday is just modern life today.

The reason for the coining of this new disorder was that internet use began to resemble the same addiction patterns you see with gambling, hard drugs and reality television. These include lying about your addiction and becoming more socially withdrawn, while it takes its toll on every aspect of your life – family, relationships, job, health, etc.

Online Vs. Face To Face Communication

But the internet is all about communication, isn’t it? Don’t you always hear about all the new ways we can talk to people all over the world?

This is true, but communication online is completely different from face-to-face communication. So much is lost when we’re looking at words on a screen instead of a person’s face. You can’t see non-verbal clues or hear subtle nuances. Sure, emoticons help a little, but there’s no substitute for the real thing.

In fact, studies have found that physical contact with other human beings is therapeutic. The internet may not turn you into an anxiety-ridden socially withdrawn recluse, but face to face contact with real people might help to keep you from becoming one.

Critics charge that internet ‘friends’ are based on superficial relationships. By immersing ourselves in our virtual social lives, we lose our face to face social skills which need practice just like any other.

The Internet – A Threat To The Nation’s Youth

Many people worry about the effect that heavy use of the internet has on our kids. They worry that children don’t develop the necessary social skills when they spend too much time online instead of socializing for real.

Young people have self-confidence problems and often they have a hard time interacting with others. The internet makes it easy to socialize, so children who are shy or lack confidence can go online instead of facing the world outside. This can hinder social development and establish a lifetime pattern of social isolation.

Relief From Your Social Problems

Indeed, relief from social problems is one of the main reasons many people choose the internet over real life. It’s so much easier to communicate online and to avoid people you don’t like or who make you uncomfortable. But as already mentioned, it’s difficult if not impossible to establish true relationships with people online.

The internet allows you total freedom and control. You can be whoever you want to be. If you’re a flabby balding middle-aged man, you can be a sprightly teenage cheerleader! If you’re a meek underachiever, you can be a lion of the business world. Anybody can be anything!

Lack of control is a major component in social anxiety. Because the internet gives you total control, it allows you to hide in its virtual reality. You no longer have to confront your anxiety issues head-on to get along in life.

Night Of The Living Netheads

Finally, a major component in net hermitude is simply laziness. Why go out on Saturday night when all of your friends are chatting on Facebook or enjoying a video game together?

Even if you think that ‘internet addiction’ is just a bunch of hooey, you have to admit that the web is a major time-waster. The time you spend surfing the web is time that you could be spending enjoying the company of others.

A New Way Of Making Connections

Before you take your computer to the nearest secondhand shop or snip your internet connection, let’s take a second to consider the other side of the argument. It’s undeniable that the web connects you to people you otherwise would’ve never met. Whereas human beings used to socialize only with people in their present physical location, the web allows you to communicate with anyone in the human race who has an internet connection.

Studies have shown that internet users have much more diverse friendships in terms of race, religion, political belief, nationality, age and just about everything else. This increased contact with people, although it might be distant and somewhat superficial, can only bring with it benefits.

The ability to communicate with people everywhere also helps us with our problems. We get help with careers, health, childrearing, growing up, schooling, major philosophical questions, and general life problems. We have access to the experience of others who we would otherwise not know.

For people who suffer from major physical or mental illnesses, the internet has been a lifesaver. It gives them access to support from thousands of people who are going through what they’re going through.

What You Can Do About It

So, are computers good or bad for your social life? Like most other things, the computer itself isn’t good or evil; it’s how it’s used. Here are some ways to keep your social isolation in check and not become a complete internet hermit.

  • Limit computer time. The less time you spend online, the more time you’ll spend getting out and doing something. And that might even include meeting other human beings! Start by monitoring the time you spend online compared with your time doing other things. You might be surprised.
  • Make a list of all the things you used to do before you spent so much time online. It might be a shocking wake-up call, but sometimes we need to be shocked. It’ll help you realize what you might be missing out on.
  • If you fall into the category of ‘compulsive net surfer’ or ‘hopeless webaholic,’ think about these things: How do you feel when you get online? Are you using the internet to deal with anxiety, depression or general dissatisfaction in your life? Is there a change you could make to eliminate this problem or dissatisfaction?
  • Create a behavioral change plan. Decide how much you’re going to do what. For example, only get on Facebook once a week. Stop checking email first thing in the morning. Turn off the computer when you’re not actively using it. Choose a time of day or day of the week when it stays off.
  • Focus on being more active. Watch a movie at the theater instead of online. Read a book instead of surfing the web. Join local community groups based around your interest instead of internet groups. And most importantly – call friends and do things with them on a regular basis.

Computers don’t turn people into hermits, but they make it easier to become one. It’s up to you to make sure you’re dealing with your problems and getting away from the web once in a while. Once you get out and see people, you’ll realize how valuable that face to face human time is!

Membership Sites

Not everyone likes membership sites but if the material within these sites is valuable they are well worth joining. Both James Martell and Martin Avis have membership sites. Interestingly they are quite different from one another.

James Martell of the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp runs a membership site that students of his courses join. This is a wonderful support system where the students can pose their questions and have them answered by both James and other students. Members pop in to share finds and tools that they have found. They discuss various Internet news items such as the Google Panda slap. As members they are eligible to take all the additional courses that James has created at no additional costs. As a method of how successful Internet marketers make money this method gives James an ongoing monthly income.

The video courses that are available to Bootcamp members are:

  • Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp
  • Outsourcing Essentials
  • Site Critiques
  • Facebook How to
  • Conversion Clinic
  • Twitter Tutorials
  • Web Video Workout
  • Drills for Skills
  • Daily Traffic Blueprint
  • Podcasting Profits
  • List Building 101
  • WordPress How to
  • Backlinks Workshop
  • Prebuilt Site Trainings
  • Organizational Strategies
  • Copywriting Basics

As well as the courses there is a schedule of upcoming events. James has question and answer session almost every two weeks where he and students meet in online classroom. This time is used to present new material and to help students with some of their challenges.

A great deal of the site is devoted to the forum where students can post questions, give answers to others, talk about Internet news, and share tips on useful tools. James comes in to help and to also report on new things but the students themselves are very supporting to one another.

The cost of this site is $47.00 per month and is offered to all students of the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp. The bonus to this is that all other features and courses are free of charge to the members. This means that you can study and follow them at your pace. I have already highly recommended the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp and once you become one of James Martell’s students you will wonder why you did not do this sooner.

Martin Avis also runs a membership site but his is entirely different. His membership site is a PLR site. Martin and his wife Delia post new PLRKickstart PLR Exclusive Private Label Club is a mere $27.00 per month. As well as the more than useful tools you get 10 articles in 3 different niches. What a bargain!

Review of Products

All three of these successful Internet Marketers review products and tools in their own way. Tiffany Dow a mentioned already picks a product and goes through it step by step. She implements it herself and lets her readers know the pros and the cons of the product. She is extremely frank about what she thinks about these products and usually engages the producers in the process. As a result of her candid approach her followers trust her and she is able to make affiliate income in the process.

James Martell interviews other marketers and in doing so reviews their products. Also in the course of teaching his courses he will recommend or suggest both products and tools. Of all the marketers James Martell is the least in your face trying to sell you products.
Martin Avis reviews products in his biweekly newsletters. He only recommends products that he believes are of high quality.

All three of these marketers create their own products and promote them to their followers.

PodCast

James Martell has the longest running affiliate podcast. It is call the Affiliate Buzz. On this podcast he interviews other marketers, talks about Internet news such as the Google Panda slap, reviews affiliate summits, and shares his ideas.

The great thing about a podcast is that you can play it as you work and if you miss something you can replay it.

Video Marketing

Both James Martell and Tiffany Dow use video presentations as part of their marketing. I for one like the idea of being able to see how things are done. I like the ability to revisit these videos. They have both used YouTube to host their video. Unfortunately for some reason Tiffany had almost all her video’s removed from YouTube. It appears that for some reason the idea of posting videos to show people how to make money online came under fire. The really hard lesson to learn from Tiffany’s experience is to be sure to have backups of this material.

In conclusion these three Marketers – James Martell, Tiffany Dow, and Martin Avis are ethical, honest marketers who are all earning good livings online while helping other people succeed at Internet Marketing.

How Successful Internet Marketers Make Money- Part 1

As a senior Internet marketer you are wise to try to learn from successful Internet marketers. There are many so called “gurus” who rave about all the money they are making. They indicate that if you just buy their recommended silver bullet you too can live a luxurious life in no time. Is it really so easy? In most cases the answer to this is no.

After chasing down many blind alleys I have settled on just the following three successful Internet marketers. They all some things in common while going about it in different ways. These three marketers are James Martell, Tiffany Dow, and Martin Avis. I will tell you a bit about why they are so successful and how they do it.

The types of methods employed by them are:

  • Courses
  • Blogs
  • Newsletters
  • Podcasts
  • Video lessons
  • Membership sites
  • Reviews
  • PLR

Courses –Sharing and Teaching

Each of these successful people is very generous with their time and their knowledge. They are willing to share with others those methods that have led to their success. In doing so they make money along the way.

James Martell has developed a number of wonderful Internet courses. The major of these sixteen different courses is his Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp. This is a 28 week course held on a weekly bases in a video classroom. In this weekly course James teaches and illustrates the material and students can ask questions. Each of the weekly courses is backed up with written transcripts and videos. I found it more than useful to be able to both read the course material and visually review it. The ability for students to be able to view the material over and over again is a great learning tool. Because many people relate to the written word more than to a visual presentation the transcripts are a bonus not often offered. For me it was definitely a reinforcing part of learning the material. This is where I started and I can highly recommend the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp.

Once you have taken the Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp and joined James and his followers you will have free access to all his other courses. I cannot begin to tell you all the information that is available in these courses. James and Arlene Martell give of their time constantly. They talk on a personal way and share their family life with everyone. They are a wonderful support system.

Blogging

Tiffany Dow posts a blog on her site daily. She talks about things that she is learning. She answers questions sent to her by followers. She reviews products. She makes announcements about new eBooks or PLR material that she has created. She also responds to the many comments left on her site. Sometimes she presents her material in video form as well as giving a written presentation of it. I like it when she does the video because often I can listen to her and work on something else.

Tiffany allows her followers into her life and talks about her husband, her mother, her children, and her dog. She lets her Internet friends share her ups and downs.

Because she is generous with her knowledge and open about her own trials and errors people trust her. The relationships she builds helps to sell the products she promotes.

Tiffany Dow uses her daily blog to help other marketers solve on going problems they may have. The comment section of her blog allows marketers to pose questions and make suggestions.

As well as the blog Tiffany offers a number of eBook courses that she has written. They are all very through and very reasonably priced.

Newsletters

Martin Avis teaches through his twice weekly newsletter and if you happen to be lucky enough to live in the U.K. he often speaks at Internet educational seminars. Martin has written several eBooks to help Internet marketers while making him an income.

Martin Avis’s twice weekly newsletter is a way to teach, inform, and chat with his Internet Friends. Like James Martell and Tiffany Dow he shares his family life, his health problems, his home improvements and his garden with the subscribers.

The thing that I like about the newsletter is that it is quick to read, informative, and a soft sell. Martin only promotes things in which he believes. If there is nothing of value in a product he says so.

To be continued……..
