Link Cloaking

Keep Your Affiliate Links Safe

As senior Internet marketers the learning curve can be severe with so many things to learn our grey heads are often overtaxed. One of the technical items that I have come across time and again is Link Cloaking. What this term means is to take your affiliate link that might be something like http://xxxxxxxxxxxx.hop.clickbank.net and turn it into something like http://yourdomain.com/recommends/xxxxxxx.html
As surprising as it might be there are people out in the Internet world just waiting to scam your links and take your commissions.

One of the mysteries is how do you cloak your links and protect them?

Manual Systems:

  • This can be done by using some script and manually changing them. A form of this might be and then putting your affiliate code from http: to EMAIL. For most of us this is a bit complicated particularly if we have no comfort with php script.

Paid Programs:

  • A number of services are available to do this. I understand that one of the better ones is DL Guard. I have not used it myself but several forums that I visit highly recommend it.

Free Cloaking Programs:

  • Again there are choices but I like the idea of simplicity. The simplest that I have found is Linkcloak. I like the fact that it is very straightforward and because it is online it can be accessed from anywhere. It provides a double-layer of encryptions that further protects your links. The link that it produces promotes both your domain name and the name of the affiliate to which you are linking. The bonus is that it is free.
  • How do use it: go to http://linkcloak.com (not affiliate link) and sign up. Once you have established a User name and password you are good to go. You will be taken to a page that allows you to paste in your affiliate link. In the next box down put a title for your product. It is a good idea to use the title from the page that your link will land upon. For example if the page you are sending your visitor to is Peanuts for Squirrels then that is what your title should be. For the file name use lower case letters and dashes like this peanuts-squirrels.html. It is imperative that you use .html or it will not work.
  • Now comes the tricky part especially for us seniors who are still learning Internet marketing. After you have entered all this information push the Cloak and Encrypt button then save the file to your computer. For this to work on your website you now need to load this to your website.
  • Use a FTP program such as Filezilla to transfer the file to your website. You want to go into the main part of your website in other words the public_html and create a directory called recommends or likes or loves or something similar. Then you want to move the file from your computer into the new directory. After you have done this you are then able to put more and more cloaked affiliate links in that same directory. This way if you are promoting several affiliate products they will all have their own cloaked links.

Because I have found this whole idea of cloaking your links and redirecting hard to get my old noggin around I want to share with you a video I found on Youtube. I don’t know this fellow and it seems like he has not posted on his blog since 2009 but this is a very clear presentation of the process.

What is PLR

As a Senior Internet Marketer How Can PLR Benefit You?

When you start to work on the Internet as a senior it can be very confusing. Especially the lingo or language of the web can initially be meaningless. Figuring out what things are, how they work and if they can help you is often like climbing up a mountain.

Most people both inside and outside the world of Internet marketing don’t really understand the what private label rights or PLR are. They don’t realize that the use of these products can help them with web site content, articles, eBooks, audio, and even video material for their marketing.

The use of this relatively inexpensive material enables Internet marketers to increase their revenue.

The process is as follows: someone, usually a writer, will produce the material for others to buy and in selling it give up all rights to it. The material can range from articles, reports, eBooks, audio or video information, and software programs. The PLR material is sold in a package for pennies.

At first glance this does not make sense. Why would anyone go to all the work of producing this content to sell it cheap? The reason is that there are many buyers willing to buy the PLR packages and thus the originator is able to make some real dough from this process.

For sellers, if you can write a short ebook of 20,000 words, or a pack of ten 500-word articles and sell it to 150 different people for $10 each you will have made a tidy $1500. And still retain the right to sell it to 150 more if you can find them.

This is a win win situation. The seller has made a nice return for his efforts and the buyer can use material however he wishes.

Since the seller has given up all rights to the material the buyer is free to put his own name on it. Once the buyer has paid for the product and taken delivery of it he can then treat it as if he had created it and can then use it anyway he can imagine.

The buyer of PLR articles can edit them, rewrite them, use them for inspiration, turn them into courses, combine them with other PLR packages the sky is the limit.

Article directories do not like PLR material especially if there has been no change to it. If you plan to use the material for article directory submission it is best to use it for ideas. The article directories are on the lookout for duplicate content.

You are usually restricted from buying PLR material from one source then trying to sell it as your own PLR product.

The rules of use differ from one supplier to another so pay attention to the policies of the seller.

As everyone’s website is crying for original content buying PLR articles is a speedy way to help produce it. Private label rights assist your rankings in the search engines while giving your visitors fresh information.

For almost every possible niche it is possible to find inexpensive PLR material. The main problem in finding and using PLR is finding quality material. Often you will find PLR materials that have been kicking around for years and have been used and used.

Most quality webmasters feel that it is very important to have fresh content. Visitors as well as search engines are seeking for informative, helpful material that is presented in an understandable way. Both are quickly turned off by junk.

If your visitors are not rewarded with a quick understandable answer to their problem or need they will exit the site immediately. You will never see those visitors again.

Fortunately there are many extremely well written PLR products. There are a handful of membership sites that provide the very best quality articles, eBooks or software at surprisingly low prices.

I highly recommend the following sources for quality writing and great service.
Tiffany Dow’s PLR ATM

Joey Massenburg had this to say about Tiffany Dow

She really knows her stuff and practices what she teaches. Tiffany is one of the most honest and transparent marketers on the planet and one of the few marketers who is more concerned with helping people than how much money she makes plain and simple
Tiffany Dow’s PLR Internet Marketing

Very best PLR Membership site is Martin Avis’s Kickstart PLR

Neil Shearing had this to say about Kickstart PLR:

Martin recently decided to offer people quality articles to use as they wish on their own websites… so-called PLR articles.
But, being Martin, he wanted to do it better than anyone else, so he created the “gold standard” of PLR… and very impressive it is too!

Another reviewer said this:

All the articles are written by the husband and wife team of Martin and Delia Avis – one a full time internet marketer and the other an experienced English teacher – so the research and writing is first class.
Martin is takes the quality of his articles very seriously because as Martin is a real Internet Marketer he knows what works!

As you are learning so many other techniques this private label rights content can help you with affordable material for all your marketing needs.

Information Products

Information Products -To Attract Buyers

How do you make money online? What is one of the ways that will work for you? From article marketing to affiliate marketing to email marketing to ghost writing there are a variety of avenues that you can pursue to earn an income online. For many seniors working from home the need for a steady cash flow to augment their retirement savings is an urgent need. Being a service supplier to others is a basic step to starting to see some cash flow however having you own information products will give you control. There is no end of buyers looking for information and willing to pay top dollar to get it.

What exactly is meant by an information product? Do you have to be an expert in something to produce one?  The whole idea of producing an information product scares many people and prevents them from following a path to income. Once you really understand what goes into creating such a product you will see that you are up to the challenge.

Most people use their computers to find out something or to solve a problem. This is why the Google search engine is so used.

Some of those questions are about mundane things and can be answered very easily. But some questions are more complex, more important and more pressing. If the latter is the case it is much easier to purchase an answer than spend hours going down blind avenues looking for the solution.

The more pressing the need, the more willing one is to buy the solution.

The difference between online and offline information products is that offline everyone has a view as to how much a ‘book’ or a ‘magazine’ is worth and will rarely pay more than the accepted norm. Online, the buyer is seeking a quick answer to a problem or a perceived need and is willing to pay top dollar for the answer. It is one of the interesting facts that people are willing to pay more for an online solution than an offline answer.

Information products come in all shapes and sizes. A few to consider are:

EBooks – Usually PDF files formatted to look like a real book, but with fewer pages. A typical eBook is between 70 and 100 pages, but can be a lot less, or a lot more. EBooks can sell for anything from a few dollars to hundreds. A price point of $67 or $97 is not unusual. Good instruction on how to produce your own eBooks can be found at Your Own eBook Business or eBook Secrets Exposed My favorite resource for this is Tiffany Dow’s Building an Ebook Empire

Special Reports – As with eBooks, special reports are normally supplied as PDF files, but they tend to be much shorter. 5-10 pages are typical. Special reports are usually focused on answering a single problem or teaching a specific method for something and have a lot less fluff and filler than eBooks often do.

White papers – Sometimes the answer to a question can be contained in a page or two – a list of resources, for example.

Videos – with the ease of use of hand held video cameras such as the Flip, and screen capture programs it is very easy now to produce short videos to answer people’s questions. Buyers seem to like video products and are often willing to pay a premium price for them.

Audio – spoken word information products – often called podcasts – are popular with people who regularly use MP3 players and Smartphones as they allow folks to learn while on the move. Sometimes it is quite easy to simply read out an article or short report into a program like Audacity to make an audio info product that will sell well.

Membership sites – When information can be delivered over time, in installments, it can be very profitable to do so from within a membership site. This gives the vendor an ongoing income from subscription fees as well as a frequent opportunity to offer members other offers.

Creating your own information products has one very big advantage. When you sell it, you determine the price and you keep all the profits. And as the cost of creating, producing and supplying digitally downloadable info products is virtually nil, the potential profits can be enormous. You can literally start a real business but with no overheads.

In addition to sales you make yourself, you also have the chance to attract and recruit other people to sell on your behalf. In Internet marketing these people are called affiliates. They will promote your product to their lists, and if they incur any advertising costs will be entire responsible for them themselves. You simply pay them a commission for each sale they make.

Typically, you will pay them 50% – 75% of the sales price, which may sound a lot, but consider the sale one you wouldn’t have otherwise had, and it has cost you nothing. You may ‘only’ make 25%, but that 25% is 100% profit. It is a great deal!

Not all info products are created to be sold though.

Sometimes it is better to offer your product as a free gift in return for somebody’s email address. Building up an email list is a vital part of online marketing and can massively increase your profitability. It is an effort to attract new traffic to your offers, but if you have already got a list of 1000 people to tell about a new information product you’ve created, you can really boost your launch results with no extra effort.

Creating free information products as giveaways to attract subscribers is very effective and easy to do. It should be a part of all marketers’ routine.

Online marketing is, at its heart, about selling. Information is one of the most valuable commodities we can sell. While it is great to be an affiliate for other people, producing and owning your own info products is the best way to secure your personal success into the future.

Email Marketing

The Most Satisfying Way to Make Money Online

In a very short space of time, email has completely changed the face of direct marketing. Over the last 100 years or so many millionaires have been created by direct marketing – sending ads out to thousands of people by mail. But a lot of people have lost their shirts because although the potential rewards are great, the potential losses can be huge too. Mail shots cost a lot of money and if they don’t pull in the orders, you can be looking at a huge expense. Email marketing has changed the ground rules. Now, almost anyone can get involved and the cost of entry is virtually nil.

With email there are no printing costs, no envelopes to buy, no staff to employ to stuff the envelopes and no postage costs.

Of course, there is a thin line between legitimate email marketing and spam. The very first known case of spam (unsolicited commercial email) was sent to 393 recipients by Gary Theurk, then an employee of DEC computers. It was sent out over the old ArpaNet system – the precursor to today’s Internet – in May 1978.

Nobody liked it then, and nobody likes it now. It is estimated that over 85% of all email sent is spam of one kind or another.

Legitimate email marketing can be very profitable, but the most successful, and ethical email marketers go to great lengths to ensure that they are only sending emails to willing recipients and that their emails comply with local regulations such as the American Can-Spam act.

To be successful in legitimate email marketing it is important to build a relationship with the people to whom you are sending your messages. That usually means establishing your own reputation and making sure you provide people with interesting, readable content. Of course you will want to include promotional messages to sell things, but if that’s all you send out, your readers will soon get tired and unsubscribe from your list.

As an email marketer your mailing list  is the most valuable commodity you own. In general, most email list marketers say that the average return should be $1 per subscriber per month. So a list of 5000 people should, on average, make its owner $5000 per month.

Averages deceive though. A marketer who sends out ad after ad, sales pitch after sales pitch, with no attempt to communicate, entertain or inform will usually see a much lower rate of return. On the other hand, someone who sends out a well written newsletter filled with interesting and useful information – that also happens to include a personally written sales message – can enjoy a rate of return many times the industry average.

It takes more work to write an interesting newsletter or ezine, but the long term rewards can make the effort very worthwhile.

There is an old adage that ‘The money’s in the list’, and it is true provided you have the right list and have established a trusting relationship with the people on it.

Too many email marketers think of their ‘list’ as a commodity and forget that it is made up of individuals. The most successful ones never forget that they are writing to people, not lists.

There are many ways to become an Internet marketer and email marketing is just one of them. It may not be the easiest to succeed at – you will need to develop your writing and communication skills and learn how to build your list in the first place – but for those of us who make our living writing email newsletters it is by far one of the most satisfying.

Internet Marketing

What is Internet Marketing?

As a senior learning to work from home on your computer, many people including your family won’t understand what you are doing. You may find that your family is resentful of all the time that you are spending on your computer. They may think that you are wasting your time.

Others will think you’re nothing more than a spammer – just because you work on the Internet. You might even run into people who automatically assume you’re into promoting porn, because they think that’s all the Internet is used for!

You need to be prepared to deal with people like this who are simply ignorant about the various marketing uses for the World Wide Web.

The first thing you need to explain to people is that very few people who work on the Internet are spammers. Spammers actually make up a very, very small minority of those who make money online.

If you do any sort of email marketing, you should explain that every single person you send email to has signed up specifically to your newsletter, and clicked a link to confirm that they really want to be on your list.

Explain to them that subscribing to your newsletter is a lot like signing up for delivery of the newspaper, or a magazine subscription. People sign up to your newsletter, and then you send them valuable information, not just advertising.

If you sell eBooks online, you can explain to people that you’re a bit like a book publisher, but all of the books you publish are in digital format. You can tell them that instead of paying a lot of extra money for the printing, binding, marketing, and shipping of a physical book, you eliminate those costs by selling all of your books as downloadable products.

If people still don’t understand, you could even show them what an eBook is by letting them view one on your computer. If your main business is advertising affiliate products, you can tell people you’re in advertising.

Explain to them that you run a website (or websites) and you place advertising on that website. Every time someone clicks an ad and purchases something, you receive a commission. If you make most of your money through AdSense or selling advertising on your sites, you can simply tell people that you place advertisements on your websites, and you charge advertisers for that ad space.

If you want to, you could show them some of your sites or blogs to illustrate the point. Some people feel more comfortable just telling people they design websites. If you’re a decent website builder, this will probably really impress people, but be prepared to get requests from people asking if you’ll make them a site, too.

If you don’t want to deal with all of the questions about spamming and porn, just telling someone you design websites will usually be enough to throw them off your trail. If people are particularly persistent with their questions, you can start to point out some examples of people who have been very successful making money online.

Don’t just use examples of famous Internet marketers like John Reese or Yanik Silver! Use some examples with verifiable “proof” in mainstream media. For example, the famous “make money” blogger John Chow has a number of stories out there about him.

There’s also teenaged entrepreneur Ashley Squalls who has made mainstream news in a big way by making over $70,000 per month with advertising on her site that gives away MySpace layouts. And of course, the infamous Perez Hilton – a celebrity blogger who cashes in on the ad space his blog has.

You should try to realize that some people will just never understand what you do. Try to explain it the best way you can, and if it doesn’t work, accept it. Some people just won’t get it. If the in-laws or your spouse are nagging you because your money isn’t yet streaming in, and you feel pressured, put together a simple presentation that answers all of their questions and puts their minds at ease.

You may find that as a senior it is taking you longer than you or your family expected to see results. Don’t despair just keep at it. Every day you will learn something new and get closer to your goals.

Digital Downloads

Digital Download Affiliate Products

When deciding to be an affiliate marketer you have a choice in what type of product to promote. As the product owner you also have a choice as to what type of method that you will use to sell your product. You also as the owner of the product can decide how much you are willing to pay to make these sales. It makes sense that as the affiliate marketer that you would seek out well paying products to promote. If you are going to go to all the trouble to set up a web site and fill it with meaningful content then you wish to receive the highest commission possible.

By promoting digital products you have more of an opportunity for larger commissions than with concrete items. It is possible to find hard goods that are very expensive and as a result the commission is higher however the number of sales are substantially less.

What is a digital product? It can be any product that the buyer can down load. It can take the form of a text file, an audio file or a video file. The joy of digital products is that they are available 24/7. They can be acquired whenever you are on your computer.

Interestedly these digital products usually sell for more than the equivalent product at a bookstore. Sometimes the digital product will sell for as much as three times the hard copy from the store. Again it stands to reason that your commission on these products would also be higher.

For instance if you are top producing Amazon affiliate making 7% on your sales and you sell this book for $14.95 you will earn slightly over a dollar. But that $49 digital download – an eBook about the same topic – offers you 50% commission, giving you $24.50 per sale!

It definitely makes sense to be promoting the digital edition. It is a win win for the producer of the product also. By creating an eBook you can charge more, which enables you to pay your affiliates more, and will increase your sales.

Your digital product does not have to a written item instead consider making either a series of MP3 files or a series of videos. There is an insatiable appetite for information products that can be either listened to or watch on the many electronic devices that everyone now owns.

With programs like Camtasia for producing and YouTube for uploading the use of video has become wide spread. For a series of lessons video is just like being in a classroom. It is great to be able to follow a lesson on video and then to read it. Both formats allow for reinforcement of the message. By the combined use of text, MP3 and video you are able to increase the price of your product.

With this combination you may be poised to market a high-ticket digital download that takes in upwards of $1,500 for a single sale – something affiliate marketers will jump all over.

We recommend that you have a look at the following opportunities to promote digital products from reliable sources:

Overwhelmed?

Overwhelmed and Don’t Know Where to Turn!

As a Senior trying to learn Internet marketing are you just plain overwhelmed? Are you wondering which direction to take next? There is so much to learn. There are so many new skills to grasp. Everywhere you turn another course promises to deliver the secret to success. Welcome to information overload. There is so much data out on the web these days no wonder we seniors can’t find a clear path to learning new skills.

One “guru” recommends you try ghost writing, another suggests writing your own e-book, a third says the way to go is to become an affiliate marketer. You find yourself running between one system to another and losing focus.

These “gurus” tell you it is a must to build a list and that you must get traffic to your site. They sell you courses on article marketing, article spinning, submitting articles to article directories, and writing articles for others. They tell you to get on Twitter, Facebook, and My Space. They suggest you should build Squidoo lenses and Hub pages. They inform you the fastest way to get traffic is to launch a pay per click campaign. They neglect to tell you that you might also lose your shirt on this. You don’t know who to trust or which method to believe. As a ‘newbie” Senior Internet marketer you don’t have the background to make sound evaluations of these different options.

Start by taking a deep breath and relaxing. Remind yourself that in spite of the sales pitch that suggests you must act immediately all this material is here to stay. All these methods and materials are going to be available whenever you are ready to deal with them.

Take one step at a time. Start by following a program that interests you and that you understand. Follow it in baby steps until you have mastered it. Focus on this method until you see results. Delete all those emails trying to sell you the latest and greatest.

Unlike many of the things that we learned at school there is no exact starting point. Learn one skill first then move on to the next. It doesn’t matter if you learn to create content before you learn about social media.

Each step you take will give you the understanding to build on the next. Internet marketing is a continuous process of education, rinse and repeat.

Like all learning there are some things you need to know before taking the next step. The building of a very basic web site and how it all goes together is a very good place to begin. There are a number of very good courses for this. I have just been going back over Michael Jones Affiliate Code program and being remind how very appropriate it is for a ‘newbie”. Initially for me Craig Kaye’s Info Product Killer opened my eyes to how a web page is constructed. Either of these programs are so through that anyone can follow them.

Now a days everyone needs to blog about what they are doing. Craig Desourcy’s Idiot Proof Blogging is an excellent product on how to set up a blog. This is something you can do without having your own web site however he does outline the steps to set up your WordPress site. Taking everything in bite size bits of information and working with it will help you avoid being confused, discouraged and totally overwhelmed.

How Much Does It Cost to Make Money Online?

With no money at all you can get started making money online. This is important to many seniors that are just learning about the world of Internet Marketing. If you are thinking about investigating this way to make some money it is safe to say that you already have a Computer and an Internet connection.

The strong advice from the “gurus” is to start by providing a service such as writing articles for others, doing graphic designs, setting up pod casts, or producing videos. The second way to make money is to produce your own product. However if you are not ready for this yet, affiliate marketing (selling other people’s products) is a great place to get your feet wet and to learn about how this business works. Without any money at all or with a small outlay you can find some profits by selling third people’s products.

Set up accounts with Amazon, Shareasale, Commission Junction, LinkShare, ClickBank, or PayDotCom. Spend some time researching these sites and studying their products. Then look for sites such as Squidoo or HubPages where you can do product reviews at no cost to you.

For a very few dollars you can register your own domain at GoDaddy. or NameCheap and set up a hosting program at HostGator or Bluehost. In this way you can control your own destiny.

To be able to post your content you will need a content management system and a free one with endless possibilities can be found at WordPress.

There are a number of tools that make working online much easier. One of these is a keyword tool. This helps you to research what words people are using to find products. Again you can use a free keyword tool – Google Adwords: Keyword Tool. Or you can pony up and invest in Market Samurai. For a nominal amount of money you can get a full keyword search tool based on the four principals of relevancy, traffic, competition, and commercial value.

If you have plenty of time and just want to go slowly into this new venture you can research how to do the many tasks required to be successful. Or depending on the knowledge that you already have and your income resources you can sign up to a course that will show you the way. If you have no knowledge at all I recommend that you buy the Infoproduct Killer program. Developed by Craig Kaye of the UK it will give you a step-by-step guide in setting up a web page. For me it was an “aha moment” in understanding what a web page was all about. Craig Kaye has outstanding support. To reinforce this instruction I recommend Michael Jones’ “Affiliate Code” that teaches how to start, get a domain, hosting, construct a web site, adding content, getting traffic . If you are interested in setting up a large community site with huge amounts of content there is no better instruct thanJames Martell’s Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp. I cannot speak highly enough about James and Arlene Martell and their willingness to help others.

Working online is a constant learning experience. It is not a get rich scheme so be wary of those products that advertise over night riches. Find one program that suits your style and stick with it until you have made some money.

If you can find a good mentor this is an excellent way to succeed. Follow his or her advice until you see results. Stay focused and don’t buy every new gadget that promises you six figures.

As you make some money plan to put back some of the profits into useful tools and find ways to increase your success.

If you think of something that someone needs to have answered for example “how do I cure my bad breath?’ Or ‘what to look for in a house sitter?’ Your article should outline the problem then give suggestions to solve it.

There is a set template for the how to type of article writing. First paragraph expands on the problem. The next several paragraphs give the solution or the tip to solve it and finally a summary of both the question and the solution.

For a tips article you need to give more than one solution. This entails some prior investigation into the problem. You then need to expound upon each tip and how it might solve the problem. It is possible that to solve the need all tips are necessary. The intro and outro paragraphs would be very similar to the how-to ones.

After you have polished your article and you are happy with the final draft you need to distribute it. You can do this by submitting it to the various article directories yourself or you can use an article directory submission service.

What Return Can Article Marketers Expect?

Like anything else the return you receive relates to the effort you are prepared to make.

You need to produce articles on a regular bases not just when the mood strikes you.

By constantly writing and submitting articles you build up your presence online and people begin to notice you. This will result in numerous backlinks, traffic to your websites, an interest in what you have to say, and ultimately a steady income.

If you like to write or you are willing to learn to write the distribution of articles online will reap many rewards for you. You need to be consistent, patient, and determined. If you just can’t write yourself you can still be successful by the use of Good private label articles. By a little tweaking you can turn these into unique content and submit them to the article directories.

Over time this form of online marketing will help your bottom line. It is unlikely that any individual article will make very much impact on its own, but 200 or more scattered over the Internet can bring many long term rewards.
